Internaional Wine & Spirit Competition 2008
The International Wine & Spirit Competitionは、ワイン・スピリッツのコンペティションでは世界で最も古いものです。世界のすばらしいワインやスピリッツ、リキュールの品質向上を目的として開催されています。
ワインやスピリッツ、リキュールは、必要に応じて品種や地域、ヴィンテージ毎のグループに分けてブラインド・テイスティングされ、得点システムにより受賞が決められ、トロフィーは厳選されたカテゴリに与えられます。また、ゴールド、ゴールド（ベスト・イン・クラス）、シルバー（ベスト・イン・クラス）を受賞したワイン、スピリッツ、リキュールに対しては、技術的な分析が行われます。すべての製品が技術的に信頼でき、また審判がテイスティングしたときと同じ高い品質を維持して消費者に届くことを確認するためです。
イングリッシュワインのトロフィーは、10月のIWSC Awards Ceremonyで発表されます。

イングリッシュワインは、2005年は10個、2006年は16個、2007年は21個、2008年は22個と、メダルの数を増やし続け、品質の向上を示しています。2007年は非常に湿度が高い年でしたが、それにも関わらず2007年ヴィンテージも好成績を残した。

The English & Welsh Wine of the Year Competition 2007
2007年6月25-26日、Mercian Vineyards Association主催のThe English & Welsh Wine of the Year Competitionが開催された。
ワインの判定は、Patricia Stefanowicz MW (審査委員長)、David Wrigley MW、Maggie McNie MW、Anthony Foster MW、Sarah Jane Evans MW、Julian Brind MWにより行われた。

イングリッシュワインのトロフィーは、10月のIWSC Awards Ceremonyで発表される。
今年、イギリスからは過去最高のエントリーとなり、2006年と比較すると50％近く増えた。26のワインがメダルを獲得し、シルバー（ベスト・イン・クラス）では、そのうち伝統的な瓶内発酵をさせたスパークリングワインが5つを占めたが、これ以外にもNutbourne VineyardのスティルワインとEglantine Vineyardの珍しいデザートワインもこのすばらしい賞を受賞した。

今年は35ヶ国9358種類のワインが400人の審査員により審査された。審査員は19ヶ国から選ばれ、その中にはマスターオブワインが33人含まれていた。
ゴールドメダルは260個（全体の2.8%）、シルバーメダルは1,129個（全体の12.1%）授与された。また、ブロンズメダルは1839個（全体の19.7%）で、去年と比べ7%増加した。
イングリッシュワインは、2005年は10個、2006年は16個、2007年は21個と、メダルの数を増やし続け、品質の向上を示している。今年イギリスで唯一獲得したゴールドメダルは、Denbies Wine EstateのGreenfields 2003で、Surrey vineyard最高のスパークリングワインである。

International Wine Challenge 2009
メダルを獲得するまでには少なくとも3回のテイスティングが行われます。1週目、2週目、そして最後は5人の役員のうちの誰かがテイスティングを行います。また、役員がスコアの変更を要求するためには、他の役員のうちの一人から同意を得る必要があり、この場合、4回のテイスティングがなされることになります。
イングリッシュワインのメダル獲得数は、2005年が10個、2006年が16個、2007年が21個、2008年が22個、2009年24個と、順調に獲得数を伸ばしています。

2009年のDecanter World Wine Awardsは世界最大の大会となり、10,285のワインがエントリーしました。Decanter World Wine Awardsが始まった6年前と比べ、エントリー数は2倍に増えました。参加ワイナリーも23%増え、2,240社となりました。
